Sloan never got into an official game for Texas Christian this spring, as his return from Tommy John surgery was derailed by the March coronavirus shutdown. That will almost assuredly mean he’ll be back at TCU for another season, but the redshirt sophomore was showing the mid-90s velocity he’d demonstrated pre-injury in bullpen sessions. -
A Texas Christian commit, Sloan follows in the long line of projectable, athletic Colorado prep pitchers. He needs less projection, with present strength in his 6-foot-3, 210-pound body, but he will need time to develop. He threw limited innings last spring--he was the No. 3 starter behind current North Carolina freshman Bo Weiss and Clemson freshman Travis Marr. Then he made a splash on the showcase circuit thanks to a fast arm that produces mid-90s fastballs that can touch 97, and he has decent arm speed on a firm, mid-80s changeup. He also throws a hybrid power breaking ball that gets caught in between a curveball and a slider. Scouts see little present fastball command from Sloan, who walked 24 in 39.2 innings pitched this spring. Scouts can dream big on Sloan, who earns high makeup marks. He's expected to have high bonus demands that would make him difficult to sign.
